Learning objectives: 1. Publication of mycostatin to improve long-term survival and marketing, production, quality of mycostatin and naloxone. Cilia motility assay. Rabbit tracheal explants were used to quantitate ciliostatic activity. The tracheal rings were rinsed with saline and placed in 96-well flat-bottom microtiter plates containing 0.2 ml of Hanks balanced salt solution Flow Laboratories, Inc., McLean, Va. ; or a buffered salt solution 0.02 M Tris hydrochloride, 0.15 M KCl, 2.0 mM MgSO4, 5 mM dithiothreitol [pH 7.6] ; at room temperature. Identical results were obtained with either buffer. With an inverted microscope x 200, Olympus IM; New Jersey Scientific, Inc., Middlebruch, N.J. ; , areas in four quadrants of each tracheal ring were examined for ciliary movement at timed intervals after replacing Hanks balanced salt solution or the buffered salt solution with a solution of the ciliostatic agent 0.1 or 0.2 ml ; . Consider current possibilities for funding of genomics-based projects leading to drug target identification and validation; in this context, reevaluate the potential for inclusion of scientists from trypanosomiasis-endemic countries. Facilitate training in bioinformatics to increase competency and promote the utilization of genomics data in Africa. We take note of the call by TDR for proposals in bioinformatics and applied genomics to develop research and training centres networks in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Encourage the establishment of contacts between scientists institutions in Africa and elsewhere ; , through exchange visits, training courses and joint proposals, to maximize additive competencies.
